MAC Address Lookup
Identify the manufacturer and vendor of network devices using MAC address OUI lookup.
What is a MAC Address?
A MAC (Media Access Control) address is a unique identifier assigned to network interfaces for communications on a network segment. It's a 48-bit address typically displayed as six groups of two hexadecimal digits separated by colons or hyphens.
What is OUI (Organizationally Unique Identifier)?
The first 24 bits (3 bytes) of a MAC address is called the OUI, which identifies the manufacturer or vendor of the network device. The IEEE assigns these OUIs to companies that produce network equipment.
Why Use MAC Address Lookup?
- Device Identification: Determine what type of device is on your network
- Network Inventory: Create accurate inventory of network equipment
- Security Auditing: Identify unauthorized devices on your network
- Troubleshooting: Identify problem devices by manufacturer
- Network Documentation: Document device types and vendors
How to Use the MAC Address Lookup
Step 1: Find the MAC address on your device (usually in network settings or printed on the device)
Step 2: Enter the MAC address in any format (colons, hyphens, or no separators)
Step 3: Click "Lookup Vendor" to identify the manufacturer
Step 4: View the vendor/manufacturer information
